Chadd's of Bude – serving Bude for more than 70 years
Back in 1948, Mr Eric Chadd took out a £100 loan and bought the milk round from his employer to set up on his own. It was a smart move, because soon after, he opened his first retail shop, Flexbury Dairies in Bude.
The Chadds Story
That £100 loan turned out to be a sound investment as the business continued to grow. Throughout the 60s and 70s, Chadds became a Cash & Carry and developed a thriving wholesale and catering arm under the management of Eric’s son, Nick. Now a trusted name, Chadds served customers all along the North coast of Cornwall and Devon.
In 1994, with membership of the Sterling Supergroup, the product range was strengthened and the business focused on extending support to local producers—expanding even further in 2005 with new premises and the acquisition of Foodsmiths in Saltash.
Decades later, Chadd’s of Bude remains a proud Cornish business and a vital part of the local community, continuing to serve customers along the Atlantic coastline. Now part of the Best of the West brand, Chadd’s combines the strength and buying power of a wider product range with the same reliable, personal service—delivered as it always has been by the dedicated Chadd’s fleet and team.
